You could be forgiven for thinking Aunty Donna, is an old aunt with prickly facial hair, reeking of the scent of mothballs when she gives you a kiss. In reality Aunty Donna is local comedy trio Mark Bonanno, Broden Kelly and Zachary Ruane, who also have prickly facial hair and may or may not have a whiff of mothballs about them, particularly when wearing suits they’ve scored at Savers. They also boast over 95 thousand subscribers and over 11 million views on their award winning YouTube channel.
New Show begins with infectious high energy, a hilarious travel promo for Australiana featuring mispronounced Oz icons and some inventive audience participation. Choreographed dance moves and singing is interspersed throughout the show of unrelated absurdist sketches, tied together by the relentless pace of the trio.
Unsuspecting audience members are accosted by Lord Whoopee, and later Pausey Pete, the infuriating game show host is unleashed onto the throng. Aunty Donna are clearly enjoying themselves and take the audience along for the ride. Sometimes literally.
An ode to a childhood beverage incites belly laughs from the crowd, and while the surreal humour can at times border on the juvenile, the crowd loves it.
While the first half of the show is stronger, (the second half timing is a tad too quick) the energy of the trio does not abate, and those wanting to be throughly entertained should grab themselves a ticket and score themselves a prickly kiss from Aunty Donna, and copious laughter.
