Q&A
Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
My new single is called Dark Child and it’s written by my good friend Tim Moore.
We have just released a video for it which is really weird and funny.
I’m touring the single with my band in Aus this April and playing a bunch of festivals, then my album is released on April 24th.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Christmas cake. Dense, plain and seemingly simple but more complicated the closer you look.
Which song resonates most strongly and why?
Which song out of all songs? Happy Birthday I guess, I hear it every year so it’s stuck in there.
Any on the road anecdotes?
[pullquote]I keep my touring life as unexciting as possible. Show, bed, travel, show. You can’t always control everything though. [/pullquote]I keep my touring life as unexciting as possible. Show, bed, travel, show. You can’t always control everything though. Missed flights, broken amps. When enough of that happens you get thrown on the back foot and it’s hard to stay aright
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Stories that don’t end properly. Situations you can’t fully see inside and they haunt you because of it
What’s next for you?
The album comes out in late April, and then we’ll do a big release tour in June/July. I’m off to Canada for some festivals in mid-July and then back for lots more touring around Aus & NZ for the rest of 2015.
What’s your scene?
Bed. Pringles. Whisky. Attenborough doco. Wham
About Marlon Williams
Rising alt-country star Marlon Williams has released the video(link above) for his latest single Dark Child and will tour Australia in April with his band The Yarra Benders.
Filmed by Auckland-based production company Candlelit Pictures, the video is a play on the classic American cinema trope of a crime scene and a wayward son, bending it to a surreal conclusion. It is morbid, thought provoking, funny and downright strange, capturing the ambiguity and sinister nature of the song’s lyrics.
Dark Child is the lead single from Williams’ self titled debut album, which is due for release on April 24th. Recorded in Lyttelton NZ, with his long time producer Ben Edwards (Aldous Harding, Tami Neilson), the track has already been added to Double J and community radio stations around Australia and New Zealand.
