Q&A
Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
Our new single is called These veins and it’s off our new album called Bad Blood that was released in February this year by Poison City Records and we are plugging it with a 20 date national tour over mainland Australia presented by triple j, Poison City Records and old mate The Drunk promoter. BOOM!
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
[pullquote]Drunk, naked and with nature calling, I decided to piss down the public stairwell (in clear view of the CCTV cameras, mind you) and proceed to passing out on the carpet of the hallway[/pullquote]It would be pizza, with tonnes of hot sauce and jalepenos, half eaten and kept in the fridge for over a week, then reheated in the microwave and when you are eating it you question whether it’s still ok or if it will make you very sick in the near future.
Which song resonates most strongly and why?
Song by Clowns would be bad Blood/These Veins, it’s my favourite on the new album and a killer to play live. Song of all time would be TISM Are Shit by TISM, the best song ever written in my opinion.
Any on the road anecdotes?
Too many to choose. The first that springs to mind would be the time we played in Brisbane and Trad from Crowbar set us up in a swanky 5 star apartment just outside the valley. We got back to our hotel room late at night and all definitely feeling the effects of some heavy drinking. I, in my intoxicated state got up for a piss but somehow accidentally locked myself out of the room in my underwear, while the rest of the band were KO’d inside and couldn’t hear me yelling and screaming for them to open the door. Drunk, naked and with nature calling, I decided to piss down the public stairwell (in clear view of the CCTV cameras, mind you) and proceed to passing out on the carpet of the hallway. I slept there until 6am, being woken up by families and yuppies every now and again who were walking past me and making snide remarks, until security came and collected me. Luckily, I have never seen any repercussions to this chain of events and i really hope Trad doesn’t read this or if you are, sorry!
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I try and find inspiration in every single little thing that happens to me in my life. If you see me at Cherry Rock on May 10 off my face, rolling on the ground, swinging from the sewerage pipes above head and doing something perhaps inappropriate, then don’t judge! I might be creating art, but probably not.
What’s next for you?
Cherry Rock marks the first date of our Running Through These Veins Tour, which goes for just under 3 months and has about 20 shows locked and loaded, all supported by our mates Summer Blood. Tix are available from www.thedrunkpromoter.com and the dates are listed on the flyer below (please attach photo of the flyer)
What’s your scene?
What’s my scene? well…
And another thing I’ve been wondering lately
Oh, baby,
Tell me where have you been?
Now the stage is set
Where’s my Juliet, baby?
Is it maybe
My Midsummer Night’s Dream?
What’s my scene?
About Clowns
Melbourne’s four piece hardcore punk hell-raisers Clowns have wracked up onto our shores again, ready to wreak havoc this Winter with a mind blowing list of 20 sweat-drenched shows, set to span across Mainland Oz.
After an explosive run of shows in the US, it’s clear that Clowns are no strangers to travel, having shed the lifeblood of Melbourne Hardcore Punk across Indonesia, China, the US and Oz, delivering 40 riotous live shows already this year; not to mention appearances at SXSW in Texas, MIDI Festival in China and many wild Australian East Coast shows.
Clowns are armed, psychotic and dangerous, with a super charged set full of tracks from both their debut LP, “I’m Not Right”, voted at number 5 on Triple J’s Short.Fast.Loud Top 40 releases of 2013, as well as their new and already acclaimed LP, “Bad Blood”.
“Energetic and enigmatic, he has that ‘can’t look away for a second’ presence that all frontmen covet. The same can be said of drummer Jake, bassist James and guitarist Joe whose contributions bring a sense of rawness and danger few bands can match.” – Musicfeeds Feb 2015
