Q&A Scene: Don Fernando

Q&A

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
We have a new album and tour kicking off March / April. Our new album is a crazy stoner rock 3 headed beast called “Haunted By Humans”, 1 part classic stoner, 1 part doom and 1 part high octane rock! The tour starts in Australia with our album launch at the Rock the Bay festival at the Espy then we head over to Europe for 4 weeks to do a bunch of club dates and a few festivals including Desertfest in London

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Its classic meat and potatoes, but like a good bangers and mash, the snags are a bit spicy and a bit fancy but its still bangers and mash, we’re not fooling anyone.

Which song resonates most strongly and why
[pullquote]Our new album is a crazy stoner rock 3 headed beast called “Haunted By Humans”, 1 part classic stoner, 1 part doom and 1 part high octane rock![/pullquote]That’s a hard one, I think songs resonate differently with different people and for different reasons. I think the title track off the new album has really grown on me, which is a weird thing for the guy that wrote the song to say, but initially I thought the track was too commercial sounding for our band, but I was eventually out voted and it has actually become to title track, the lyrics really resonate with me.

Any on the road anecdotes?
So much crazy shit happens when you are on the road, you don’t even mean it or try to do crazy stuff for the sake of it, but get a bunch of mates together in a van for 4 weeks and shit will get weird no matter who you are!! As much as it sounds like a cliche the sex drugs and rock n roll mantra is kinda accurate!

Where do you draw inspiration from?
Heaps of different bands and heaps of other art forms find their way into my music, I read a lot of fiction so there are themes that might creep in from a novel or I might find a movie really inspiring and a song could come from a character from a movie, its all over the shop really but as far as the music is concerned we just try to keep it heavy and groovy and a bit catchy.

What’s next for you?
We just need to get this album out and get on the road to promote it, that’s where we are at, shoot some videos, play some shows- meet good people, all that stuff. We’re very excited about going back to Europe, it’s been a while now!

What’s your scene?
Beer, riffs, good people, good food and new adventures, anywhere those things exist, that’s my scene!

About Don Fernando

This is Don Fernando, massive riffs, massive hooks, tight as fuck, no bullshit. From Melbourne Australia Don Fernando have been around since 2006 and have unleashed fury on stages all over the world, with an unrelenting work ethic they have toured Australia extensively and played in eight different European countries. Rock sound UK described them as the Australian band “Most likely to cause shock waves in Europe”, their review said: “Don Fernando are the latest to drop a blinding effort on our laps. “The Banquet of…” makes a meal of fuzzed up riffery, hulking big grooves and catchier than swine flu melodies”, and that says it all!Don Fernando have released one EP ‘Its Good While it Lasts’ and two albums ‘The Banquet of…’ and ‘Dia De Los Muertos’, which see’s the band moving into darker and much heavier territory while not losing any of their trademark musicality.
