Q&A Scene: Anthony Zielke ~ WHITE SUMMER

Tell us about your new album ‘Soul Breaker?

We bunkered down for 6 to 12 months writing and recording not playing shows and then Soul Breaker was born. We are real happy with it and the whole experience of writing an album.

What’s your favorite work at this point in time? (your own or your group’s work)

I would say this album Soul Breaker. The amount of work that went into it was mind blowing but also an amazing experience for all of us! I think it best showcases our music.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

When we were in Hobart for our last tour which was the biggest to date, it was the last show and we were all so broke the we couldn’t afford dinner so we went up to our room before the show and had a nap for dinner. We laugh about it now.

What, or who, inspires you?

I think we get inspiration from everywhere like most musicians and artists, it can be a personal expertise or even something a friend went through. Most of our tracks have more then one meaning in them, that are kind of linked.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

I think personally I would say ‘Killing in the name of’ by Rage Against the Machine. Such a powerful track.

What’s next for you?

Heaps of shows, going to do a kind of Album tour part 2 near the end of the year, hitting up WA and SA probably back to Sydney.

What’s your scene?

Talking shit for 10 hours in a van…

After a massive 2017 supporting the likes of British India and Ash Grunwald, rock band White Summer will released their debut album ‘Soul Breaker’ on Friday 25th May.

After sold out shows in Melbourne and Sydney, rotation on ‘MTV Upload’, national and community radio airplay plus a song feature in the ‘Nevermind Adventure’ documentary that had over 50,000 views, White Summer have readied their debut Long Player for release.

On the back of singles ‘Zero In Tennis’, ‘Talk Me Through’ and ‘Out Of Phase’ the Melbourne rockers have continued to gain momentum with support slots with Holy Holy, DMAs and Kingswood.

Their debut album was recorded at the Grove Studios with acclaimed producer Burke Reid (who has worked with the likes of Peter Garrett, Sarah Blasko, Courtney Barnett and DZ Deathrays).

White Summer released ‘Soul Breaker’ independently on Friday 25th May 2018.
