Tell us about your latest single/album/ tour.
We just released our debut track ‘Can’t Keep Your Man’ and we’re going be doing our first ever gig this Saturday (8/9/18) at Max Watts at Rebirth Festival! It’s early days for us, but we’re working on more recordings at the moment plus tours and all the fun stuff that’s part of being in a band.
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
I’m really proud of the single and how it turned out, the response has been great too. There’s some songs that we’ve been writing lately that I feel have really raised the bar for us songwriting, so I can’t wait to get those out.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Maybe a ham and pineapple pizza, some people like it and some don’t, but at the end of the day if you’re drunk and there’s nothing else on the menu, you’re gonna eat it and feed the pineapple pieces to your cat. (I don’t really know what that metaphor means, but I sure would like a pizza right now.)
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
Hmm, one that came to mind was while we were recording in the studio… The room where Estelle was doing vocals also had the toilet… nature called and I had to “keep quiet” while the vocal take was being recorded. Kinda tricky as I was a couple coffees in by that point… But I like to think that I helped add to the take.
What, or who, inspires you?
As of late I’ve been loving pretty much everything about (astrophysicist & author) Neil deGrasse Tyson. You realise the bigger picture of it all and the fact of how tiny we are in the universe; it makes you appreciate that you’re here and that’s really inspiring! Anyway, I think I’ve revealed too much of my inner nerd, I’m meant to be a cool musician right?
Which song do you wish you wrote?
It’d have to be between Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones and Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, you just wouldn’t change anything about those songs.
What’s next for you?
Echo Del Tusker will be going back in the studio after Max Watts to finish off some tracks, we’re always writing so no doubt we’ll be releasing some more singles then possibly an EP and I imagine some touring too.
What’s your scene?
Music, Coffee and the Sunshine
Echo Del Tusker may be launching a debut single, but these four rockers are not just starting out in the music industry; they have all paid their dues. Now, their passion and creativity combine with their experience and professionalism to create a release that is exciting and polished.
When you’ve spent a healthy amount of years honing your craft as a musician, making records, playing shows and touring Australia and the world, it’s normal to feel a sense of immense pride in your accomplishments. So when three long-serving members of the Melbourne rock scene found themselves not actively working as musicians, they each realised that they still had the drive, passion and desire to continue creating music. ‘The Itch’ had officially set-in and it was time to get back to work…
Estelle Artois (lead vocals/guitar) was a founding member of the female power-trio Tequila Mockingbyrd, Brendan Forward (guitar) recorded and toured with Massive and Mick Quee (bass) spent time with Dead City Ruins, Cicadastone and Perth’s Hailmary – three rock ‘n’ roll lifers who found themselves musically single and unattached at the same time. “We all came together after having left our old bands, and none of us were done,” says Artois. “We really missed all those things that make you a working musician playing in a band.”
The trio decided to meet up one afternoon at iconic Melbourne watering hole Whole Lotta Love Bar to plot their musical return over a few Young Henry’s. Joshua Potter, the drummer for Figures who is an infamous regular at the bar, was there and caught wind of the new group’s intentions and wanted in. With the line-up now complete, Echo Del Tusker was born.
Artois, Forward, Potter and Quee each contribute their own style and sound to the band, and when scraped together Echo Del Tusker’s music contains fragments of blues, rock, metal, garage and a bit of R&B – or as guitarist Forward has labelled it – “guitar-driven soul rock.”

The band are back on the stage doing what they all do best – indulging in the absolute joy that only playing music can bring.
