Tell us about your new single ‘Elusion’?
Elusion was one of the first songs we started playing together as a band. We always felt pretty good about it as a song, but it was never a real standout until it was recorded and we (Inklines & producer Lachlan West) all agreed that it had to be a single.
The song is about the feeling when you do something so many times – fights, drama, breakups – that you almost become numb or desensitized to it at times. When normal emotions and thoughts seem to elude you.
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
We’re all enjoying this new song that I wrote late last year. I went through a real rough patch and wrote this really honest song that I was heaps nervous to show people, but the other guys dug it and we played it on all our tour shows and got a great reaction every time. So yeah, digging that one at the moment. It doesn’t have name yet, but come to a show and we’ll play it for you.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
When we were in Adelaide during the tour for our first single, we went and did some shopping and I swear we spent about $35 and somehow seemed to get back with only a loaf of bread and some juice, so now we call bread “groceries”. You probably had to be there.
What, or who, inspires you?
Experience more than anything else. Letting yourself feel things and trying different things and then writing about them. No pain, no gain. Also the endless list of incredible musicians who we try to rip off.
Which song do you wish you wrote?
I could name a million, but I’d have to say “Last Goodbye” by Jeff Buckley.
What’s next for you?
We’ve got another single or two to be released this year, maybe something bigger, but we’ll see. But tour number two is up next – we’ll doing another trip around the country later this year.
What’s your scene?
Anything surrounding music. Also we play a lot of ping pong.
INKLINES Release ‘Elusion’ Single Friday 11th May

Hard hitting riffs and infectious melodies accompanied by a steady beat, Elusion will have you singing along from the first listen. With Lachlan West at the reigns as producer, the song was recorded at Hercules St Studios in Surry Hills Sydney, as part of a collection of tracks. Once mixed and mastered (also by Lachlan West), it was immediately obvious that this song was a standout, and the crowd reaction at live shows solidified this.
