It has been 29 years since The The last toured Australia in 1989. Here as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival it’s not surprising the buzz of excitement at the State Theatre is palpable. People dotted around the theatres many tiers abstaining from using their smart phones, ready to give Matt Johnson and his band their full attention.

Likely the least searchable band in internet history, Matt Johnson’s mischievously titled outfit was messing with the heads of would be fans long before Google came of age. People found The The on their own, and knew they’d hit on post-punk royalty.
The line-up was constantly evolving—along with music titans such as Johnny Marr, past members have included neuroscientists, photographers and film directors—but the one constant has been Johnson, whose vocals are immediately recognisable.
Last year saw the release of the band’s first single in 15 years, and 2018 brings with it the first live appearances since 2002, some which sold out in minutes.
This Melbourne International Arts Festival was the first time The The has played Melbourne since 1989.

Recipe Scene: Blueberry Scrolls
Who doesn’t love a sweet fresh scroll, warm from the oven. Yum. I’ve filled this batch with a blueberry almond filling, but you can put whatever you like in – other crushed berries mixed with almond meal, mashed banana and Nutella, cinnamon, whatever takes your fancy. I have been known to make two batches in short succession, as they really are eaten up quickly.

Snap Scene: Outlaw Hard’N’Fast 30th Reunion, Chasers – Friday 5th October
Outlaw HARDʽnʼFAST was one of the most iconic Melbourne club nights which gathered rockers, punks, goths, mods, headbangers, hippies, groovers, drag queens and musicians under one roof. The weekly hard rock night Outlaw HARDʽnʼFAST was a Wednesday night ritual for many from 1988 through to 1998, often attracting more than 1500 to 2000 people through the doors over the course of one night. On Friday 5th October Outlaw HARDʽnʼFAST returned for one night and one helluva party to commemorate its 30th anniversary at its one and only original home, Chasers nightclub at 386 Chapel St, South Yarra.

Celebrating their classic debut album, Rose Tattoo kicked off their Rock N’ Roll Outlaw 40th Anniversary tour in Melbourne at the Corner Hotel on Thursday 27 September 2018. The legendary Australian rock and roll band that plays street-level, heavy blues rock with an emphasis on slide guitar was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame back in 2006.
