Recipe Scene: Malted Chocolate Cake

This recipe is based on one I found online at www.delcious.com.au. I’ve adjusted it slightly and changed the icing to a fudge frosting. I first made this when I bought a large box of Maltesers but left them in a hot car and they all melted together into one big Maltesery block. But once they were chopped and scattered over and inside this cake no one was any the wiser. The cake is easy to
make and has a delicious flavour. If you don’t want to make the frosting you could easily whip cream and stir thorough crushed Maltesers and use this to fill and top the cake. Equally as delicious.

Ok take a deep breath… This is about as good as it gets… This one guitar literally cost me – a 1957 Stratocaster, 1964 Stratocaster, 1956 Les Paul Custom, 1956 Les Paul Soecial TV, an L series Fender Jazzmaster, and a refin but otherwise all original 1962 strat. All these guitars were 100% original bar the ’62 refin strat.

Jeff Martin’s reputation as a world renowned live performer is well known and he has been labeled everything from “child prodigy”, “virtuoso guitarist”, and a “singer with perfect pitch”.  Jeff formed The Tea Party with his lifelong friends, Stuart Chatwood and Jeff Burrows in 1990 after many years of playing in bands together throughout their childhood. With a career spanning over 20 years , 8 major-label releases and 4 million record sales later The Tea Party have successfully gained the attention of fans on a worldwide level, as well as touring a countless number of times throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia.  Much of the band’s success can be attributed to their phenomenal stage presence and impeccable artistry and musicianship with a wide variety of instruments and sound textures; the trio’s sound draws heavily on the rock and blues of the 1970s, as well as displaying some psychedelic influences with elements of Middle Eastern, Celtic and Mediterranean music.

Review Scene: Shannon Bourne – Words Fail

Words Fail is the third solo album to be released by Melbourne guitarist Shannon Bourne. While usually known for being a sideman to some of Melbourne’s most prominent singer songwriters, Words Fail sees Bourne placing his prowess as a guitarist and soundscape designer front and centre with this collection of 9 original instrumental tracks. Recorded over 2 days at the Melbourne home studio of fellow guitar hero Jeff Lang who engineered and mixed the album, Bourne has managed to paint an aural picture of textural imagery that is thought provokingly intense and comforting at the same time. Melodic, evocative and contemplative are words that come to mind when listening to this album in its entirety as the carefully constructed tones ebb and flow along with a multitude of stories that as a listener, I could have running through my brain at any given time. It is in this way that I found Words Fail to be an interactive listening experience.
