Q&A Scene: Blooming Heck

Melbourne garage/pop outfit Blooming Heck sure know how to blend the perfect pop song, and listening to their stunning self-titled debut album you get the sense they are cunningly aware of all the vital ingredients. Combining a jangling sound, poptastic lyrics, a driving infectious beat, kaleidoscopic keys, and tambourine shimmery goodness the band are very excited to be launching
their album at The Workers Club on 19th November.

Review Scene: Kim Salmon & the Scientists, The Barwon Club, Geelong – 30th October 2017

Geelong has an interesting culture when it comes to rock music. Having spent quite a good percentage of my life in and around the Bellarine Peninsula, I discovered pretty early in my live music options that if something was worth seeing it was going to be on at the Barwon Club. There has been a long tradition where touring bands from here and abroad play the big smoke, Melbourne and then add an extra date to span the gap between there and the next major destination. This unassuming little pub opposite Kardinia Park, home of the Geelong Football Club has a back bar and band room that hasn’t changed since the first time I was there in about 1990 and it was the perfect venue to see the reformed Scientists on an otherwise quiet Sunday night.

Snap Scene: Pennywise, Forum Theatre, Melbourne 27th October 2017

American punk rock band Pennywise played the Forum Theatre in Melbourne, Australia on Friday 27 October 2017 to mark the 20th Anniversary of their legendary fourth album Full Circle, which they’re playing live in its entirety for the first time. The album was an emotional one for the band as it was dedicated to their bassist Jason Thirsk, who tragically died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound the year before the album was released in 1997.

It’s widely considered to be one of the most seminal and emotional records of the band’s near-three-decade career, and one of the most defining albums in punk rock history. Formed in Hermosa Beach, California, Pennywise took their name from the evil clown monster in the Stephen King horror novel It. The band consists of singer Jim Lindberg, guitarist Fletcher Dragge, bassist Randy Bradbury, and drummer Byron McMackin.
