What is your latest release?
Album #7: War Is Over
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
We’ve been rehearsing a lot for the upcoming tour and out of the new songs, apart from the title track, I think I like the most a song called ‘Jerusalem’.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Well it’s certainly something that you would sit down to enjoy with a glass of red. Maybe a good well aged slice of Brie. Definitely nothing too processed. And why? Because I love Brie.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
I tend to abuse my guitar hard. Even though using a pick, the nail on my right hand’s index finger gets worn and very quickly, after a few shows, breaks. It’s crazy how a tiny cut or open wound in your finger can hurt so much. So, I use superglue daily to have a coat on top of the nail. If I’m on tour somewhere and run out of superglue, I’m fu**ed.
What, or who, inspires you?
I used to spend a lot of time listening to new music. Don’t do that so much anymore. In the latest years, I’ve been inspired by other kinds of art like exhibitions, movies, theathre… Also, being in nature is always inspiring. People with compassionate hearts inspire me. Goodness inspires me. Cat videos inspire me.
Which song do you wish you wrote?
I don’t think like that. I wish the songs I did write would mean something to people.
What’s next for you?
At present we are immersed in the work leading to the upcoming release, our seventh studio album, War Is Over. The tour starts from the UK in a couple of days and then we’ll be on the road for the rest of the year before taking a short break in January. If everything goes well, we’ll see lots of new places and faces in 2018.
What’s your scene?
I would describe it loosely the Rock scene, even though we are considered in some territories as a prog band. I guess we just do the stuff that we do and hope it resonates with the Rock crowd around the world.
Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group are thrilled to announce the release of the brand new studio album War Is Over from the award winning cinematic Finnish rockers Von Hertzen Brothers which will be out on 3rd November 2017. It’s the band’s debut release with the label after signing with them in July of this year.
The Von Hertzen Brothers are guitarist-vocalist Kie von Hertzen, singer-guitarist Mikko von Hertzen and vocalist-bass guitarist Jonne von Hertzen. The chart topping band have had 3 #1 albums (Stars Aligned, New Day Rising, Love Remains the Same) and another 2 Top 5 albums (Nine Lives, Approach) in their homeland.
This has led to them scooping an Emma Award (The Finnish Grammy) and a Progressive Music ‘Anthem of the Year’ Award as well as nominations and plaudits along the way due to their ability to blend complex arrangements, expansive musical landscapes and surging tension all entwined with gloriously uplifting melodies.
It is this sonic exploration that has seen them blaze a trail across Europe since 2000, leading them to play with artists from Foo Fighters, 30 Seconds to Mars, Neil Young, Biffy Clyro, The Wildhearts and ZZ Top to Anathema and Opeth.
