Q&A Scene: Fierce Mild

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?

Solaris is our latest single off our upcoming debut album. Its conception began, during a writing trip in an old country house near Warrnambool. In the isolated environment we locked ourselves in our makeshift studio space and wrote the piece entirely as a response to passages from Troy’s dream journal. A line would be read out and we would create a score for the scene evoked in our heads. We continued line by line until the tapestry was complete.  What resulted was a dynamic and eclectic piece that was drawn from each individual’s influences, and interpretation of dream text.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?

My personal favorite will be featured on the album. It’s a three part piece that will be separated throughout the LP. The three part piece features binaural recording techniques, didgeridoo, violins, and Jake and I slamming some doors. Can’t wait to share it!

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

We always ensure shotgun is awake to keep the driver awake, and we rotate drivers to ensure everyone is well rested for maximum safe driving. We often stop in for coffee now and again, always checking out the local sites. Keeping a watchful eye on tyre pressure and keeping the engine well maintained is key. When packing, weight is distributed evenly and tightly so there is no rattling and the car is balanced for superior handling. Troy accidently drank cigarette water while driving.

What, or who, inspires you?

Wow…so many things. Life experiences, music, film, art, the list goes on. Imagery has always been there to inspire our work. We often talk in imagery and feeling as to conjure up the creation of sounds and moments.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

Anything by Bach…

What’s next for you?

We will be heading up the East Coast to tour Solaris.

What’s your scene? We dip into heaps but are owned by none.

Launching into the record with vigor and intrigue Melbourne cinematic art rock outfit Fierce Mild will craftily wind their way into the depths of  your inner psyche with the release of  SOLARIS. The second single of the their highly anticipated debut LP due out later this year.

“Solaris was written entirely as a response to a dream journal. The result is a linear journey that takes multiple transgressions, tempos and instrumentation shifts erratically at carefully planned points, whilst still maintaining a natural flow, much in the way a dream makes little logical sense but the temporal feeling created is easily understood at the time the dream occurs. The lyrics shift from past to present to future tense in a matter of a few words, continually playing with the idea of conscious and subconscious interaction” – Fierce Mild

“When headliners Fierce Mild take the stage, it becomes clear the appreciation of the [psychedelic] genre and its new interpretations have provided a fertile breeding ground for alternative voices.” –The Music

Fierce Mild deliver walls of psychedelia, shoegaze, post-rock, and electro-acoustic dub with a folk-tinged Australian lyricism that transcends you into an unnerving dream. In their explosive live show where visuals and music collide, Fierce Mild successfully blur the lines between modern art and heavy distorted guitars
