For fans of the cult classic 1984 film Karate Kid, the name of the cafe near the railway line in Murrumbeena, Daniel Son will bring a smile to your face. So too will the space; Light filled, white walls, modern globes, freshly made gourmet sangers and hearty breakfasts to give the health conscious a coronary or two. There’s even courtyard seating out back.
The Inglorious Bastard, is a behemoth of a sandwich. (Voted one of Melbourne’s best by The Age). Two large bricks of panko crumbed and fried pulled pork, in a toasted panini, with coleslaw and house BBQ sauce. So big was this sanger that I had to take half of it takeaway, but no doubt those with healthy appetites and hangovers can polish this off or share with friends.
The assortment of appetising home made cakes and sweets were very tempting, but the bastard of a sandwich did not leave any room for dessert. If you’re looking for a challenging and tasty sando look no further than Daniel Son. Sanger on Sanger off.
