Q&A Scene: Crystal Cities

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
Our latest single Talkin To Myself is about getting your point of view across, but you feel like your talking to yourself!!

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
My Favourite work is always the song I’m working on right now! I’m writing a song at the moment called “Who’s gonna save you now” I’m writing the soundscape / production as I’m writing the song which is a new fresh process!

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
We played SXSW a few years ago, we heard that Queens of the Stone Age were playing, so we headed downtown to see if we could get in, I always seem to kinda walk ahead of the band in my own little world, so when we got to the venue I walked up gave the security a nod and walked in, looking around I started noticing camera crews and I’m thinking this ain’t right!! then I notice Queens of the Stone Age being interviewed by Rolling Stone, I walked back to the entrance and the rest of the band had been stopped by security and were waving me to go back inside, I had walked into the back entrance of the venue and was actually backstage with the band as they were doing interviews.

What, or who, inspires you?
The everyday shenanigans of life.

Which song do you wish you wrote?
Seasons by Future Islands

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Our sound would be a dessert, really creamy rich and velvety but yet a simple dessert, like a burnt caramel and chocolate mousse ha!

What’s next for you?
We are currently working on our debut E.P for release later in the year, so im currently writing material for that and playing some local shows around Sydney road testing what songs work best.

What’s your scene?
Music, Wing Stun, Cafe Racers, pop up bars, cafes, tattoos, chillin with beers with mates in the park on a Sunday.

About Crystal Cities

Crystal Cities, was born on a balmy January night in the garage of Geoff Rana’s house, in Sydney’s Inner West. They were jamming an older original song, and by starring in a different key after a long session, it revealed a chilled, stripped back and eerily, ethereal version of the once energy driven track. This was the new sound that inspired Crystal Cities to become the other-worldly pop band they are today!

Lead singer, Geoff Rana, is a prolific songwriter and a respected part of the Nashville Songwriters association. Geoff was chosen to write with well respected writers at The Writers Den after being spotted performing at the famous 12th And Porter venue as part of the Next BIG Nashville Music Conference.

The band released their debut single “Cut Me Loose” in 2015 to great reviews. The single gained interest across the U.S gaining rotation at radio WEQX in NY, Modern Rock 98.7 in Carolina and 92.9 in California to name a few. Crystal Cities began working on their follow up single with The A&R Department and Platinum Artist Development in late 2015. ACer defining their sound with the debut single “Cut Me Loose”, the band headed back into the studio in December 2015 choosing producer Sean Carey at Church Street Studios in Sydney to begin recording their follow up single “Talkin To Myself.”

The band is currently writing material for an up coming EP due for release later in 2016.
