This tiny, quaint establishment is an oasis in the heart of the Seaview shopping centre in Beauy, and my beloved local. Many a lunchtime has been spent pouring over the daily papers, sipping on superb in house roasted A.M blend coffee, whilst eating tasty home made baguettes and chatting with friendly staff, including owner Paul, when he’s not at his other two cafes; in South Melbourne and Bentleigh. Takeaway afternoon Cafe Lattes or Prana Chai Lattes, have preserved my sanity during the working week. Old black and white photographs of Beaumaris and the Bayside area, along with old relics and knick knacks provide a nostalgic, comforting interior.
As a regular, I’ve sampled everything from the home made meat ball and melted cheese toasted baguette, to the bacon and egg brioche breakfast bun, and all food is of excellent quality. There’s an abundant home baked selection of cakes, spanakopita, biscuits and protein balls along with other sweet and savoury delights. An O’Grady’s chicken and leek pie is my selection at 1pm since the majority of baguettes and sandwiches have sold out. Crisp pastry encases a hot, smooth filling of white sauce and large chicken chunks, blotting out the first day back at work blues.
Kombucha is the latest drink to boast restorative properties, including aiding digestion, and Watkins Bay Coffee Trading Co has three flavours of kombucha on tap. So popular is this fermented brew, that the first batch ran out in a matter of days. Watkins Bay also sells single origin and blended coffee beans, that can be ground on request and outdoor seating is available. For a unique, rustic cafe dining experience, look no further than my favourite local, Watkins Bay CoffeeTrading Company.
