Tell us about your new single and album?
I am really proud of the new single “Marie Antoinette” and album “New Horizons”. Marie Antoinette captures the idea of a relationship that is ‘almost there’ but not quite! Both people need to go away and work on themselves, evolve, change and grow to be the people they are meant to be. So there is a melancholy theme to the song, but fundamentally a note of optimism captured by the lyric “an overthrow of everything you ever knew.. Don’t you know? Crisis can be good for you” which is also the last lyric of the album. The song is really inspired by personal experience but also the observations of what friends/ family/ people around me were going through. The idea that in your deepest, darkest, most vulnerable moment, there is something better out there for you-New Horizons, First Light. One of my best friends once said to me “God doesn’t rescue you before the storm, he rescues you from the storm” and whether you are a believer or not- there is something beautiful and poetic about that sentiment / idea! So really the idea is that there is nothing new under the sun, whatever you are going through, someone has been there before and can help you. And here I was thinking of the themes of deep personal tragedy, challenge and loss- loss of job, loss of relationship, the challenges of addiction and recovery leading to the loss of an old life and the growth of a new one.
