Q&A Scene: Vicky O’Keefe

Tell us about your latest album and upcoming tour?

This album is something I have worked really hard on. My last album was the ‘tribute album’ which was to my father and this album is all about me. I have been writing songs for a really long time, and this album is just a snippet of those. I tried to incorporate a range of songs on there, some are old and some are new.

I am very excited for the tour. I am kicking it off in Melbourne, which is very special for me. When dad was performing, I felt they had a special appreciation for him in Melbourne, so I really wanted to start my tour in Melbourne.

Which track was your most challenging/rewarding on your latest album, and why?

My daughters favourite song is Because of you ‘ Sixto’. We watched the Rodriguez DVD that came out last year, and I felt an inspiration to write a song about him.

What, or who, inspires you?

Many artists past and present inspire me. I love john legends writing, it’s just so beautiful.

How do you feel about touring?

It feels so good to get back out on the road. I live a pretty cruisy life in Queensland, walking on the beach, so it’s been really great to kick it up a notch.

What can we expect from your upcoming appearances?

A lot more touring, I’ve got fans all over Australia begging me to come to their hometown, so I’m hoping to get to each state.

What is next for you?

I’ve got a couple surprises up my sleeve, but I’m working on the next 2 albums. Once again a collab of songs I have written over the years. Really express my life & who I am to the listeners.

What is your “scene”?

My scene is with a glass of red wine, watching Criminal minds, haha. But in all seriousness I love playing & performing.

Whether it’s behind the grand piano at home, or on a stage performing to a couple of hundred people. I live for those moments.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

Like a sharp Cabernet Sauvignon, really hits you hard and then soothes your soul ?
