Q&A Scene: Laura Imbruglia

Tell us about your new show ?

I’ve just made a webshow called “Amateur Hour”. I was upset for a long time that Australia has no quality visual platform for musicians, comedians and artists to showcase and/or talk about their work. We are saturated with sports shows and reality tv, so I decided to stop complaining and do something about it. Together, myself and approximately 40 other volunteers have made an arts & culture show! It’s pretty good, even if I do say so myself.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

You can expect to see a range of talented artists performing across all manner of genres…one day it will be Sarah Blasko, the next it will be Batpiss. I would say in food form, you could expect lime gelato, spicy vindaloo, the Jelly Belly beans that don’t offend your palate but may confuse, and fine port wine from 1977.
Which song resonates most strongly and why
Are we still talking about my web show? It’s not only music! It’s comedy, art, feature interviews, animations, low-budget cooking tidbits, interviews with cats! In fact, the cats segment resonates more and more with each viewing.
Any on the road anecdotes?

You’re definitely talking about something else. Well, most of the show was filmed in Melbourne, but we DID do a tiny bit of filming with members of The Hard-Ons in Sydney! Ray and Blackie are really hilarious and it was quite a treat to just push record and let them do their thing. I used to work in a record shop with Ray and he has the best stories and is also an amazing artist. I asked him to combine these 2 talents and the result was golden:

Where do you draw inspiration from?
Recovery (R.I.P), SNL, Amy Schumer, Seinfeld, Christopher Guest/Eugene Levy/Harry Shearer, The Old Grey Whistle Test, Soul Train, Mad Magazine, Portlandia, Peepshow, Broad City.

What’s next for you?

We’ll be releasing the very 1st episode on Tues Sept 1 2015 at 8PM. Following that, we’ll air 1 x episode each fortnight (same day, same time) on this website via our youtube channel (subscribe now: https://www.youtube.com/c/amateurhourtv so you be notified when it’s online). We’ll have 6 episodes in this pilot season for your viewing pleasure.
ONGOING…

We would love a production company or tv channel to sign us up for another season! We think Australia needs a show like ours! We reckon we did a great job and we hope the viewers agree! The proof will be in the pudding, so make sure you tune in!
What’s your scene?
Independent Music. Art. Offbeat Comedy. Live Music. Weird shit.
