Tell us about your new self-titled album.
It’s the most introspective and thoughtful record I have made. It’s my third and I made it under unusual circumstances (with an ex lover). I am so proud of it and it was such a challenge to complete so for this reason I really appreciate the final product on another level. I see it as a window into my soul at a point in time. The stories portray a women searching, sad and lonely. Asking for more, wondering about love and life. What else do we write about? As one of my favourite poets Anais Nin proclaimed “we write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect”
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
My favourite work is this current record! It’s an accumulation of experience and learning. Lots of hard times have passed which is always great material to process and tell stories of. I love singing the tune ‘Songbird’ off the record. It’s special to me and it’s not about love or a man, it’s about my dreams and desires. Integrity in the music industry! I could have wrote that pop song to get me places and could have surrendered to being more commercial but everything I have done has been true to my heart. And it’s for this reason I can look back and be happy with the works I have created. May not have made me a small fortune (insert sigh) but I am leaving my legacy behind. A footprint in the world. Who knows in 50 years time someone might listen to my music in some futuristic world and just love it. That is cool.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
Work with people you love and it makes the journey a hell of a lot more fun. If it’s not fun then why do it?
What, or who, inspires you?
Everything inspires me. Good people, love, desire, passion, sex, stories, poetry. Being vulnerable and looking inwards to learn. Most of all….my dreams and aspirations which never end and evolve. Which song do you wish you wrote? ‘Pictures of You’ by the Cure. It’s so simple yet moving. I love their sound but this song always takes me to another place. A dreamy place where some special love of mine feels that way about me.
What’s next for you?
Fall in love, buy a horse, move to the country and make another beautiful record.
What’s your scene?
Nature and life.
