Tell us about your new single Free With me?

Free With Me is the first song I’ve ever properly written and it marks the very beginning of my journey as a solo artist. Being a naturally shy and private person, I had many anxieties about stepping out into the world with my own music and allowing my thoughts and feelings to be accessible to all.

Free With Me is a song to myself that encourages breaking through the boxes, boundaries and limitations we face every day. I wanted to tap into the power and beauty of inner and outer freedom. I hoped it might be something that others could relate to and grab onto.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time? (your own work)

I’m currently pretty excited about an unreleased song we’ve just put down in the studio last week called Showstopper. I feel like it reveals and showcases my more rockier, toucher side.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

I would describe my sound like a home cooked chicken schnitzel (with seasoning that has a bit of a kick), hot crunchy chips and some wholesome but simple warm gravy. Whilst my sound reflects a strong rock influence (like a chicken schnitzel seasoned with paprika), I feel that it also embodies the tenderness of soul and folk – similar to a warm gravy.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

The story of meeting my guitar hero, Ian Moss is a pretty good one! We were in the Maldives for a one off, joint bill gig ( I was there playing with Kate Ceberano). I got to meet him on the first night, which was incredible to learn that he is such an amazing and inspiring human being. The next night, another artist fell ill and at the last minute an opportunity came up for me to step in and jam a few songs with Ian and his band. My heart was pounding and my palms were sweating, I had dreamt up this moment my whole life… When I got on stage he handed me his guitar which was in a different tuning and then I dropped my pick in fear. I thought I was gonna to pass out with overwhelm, but it all somehow worked out and was the beginning of the most beautiful friendship with Ian and his lovely wife. All while in the Maldives! Surreal!

What, or who, inspires you?

I am really inspired by my family, friends and fellow local artist community. I am inspired by dedication, hard work and by people who put their heart and soul into what they do without fear.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

There’s so many!!! Madison Cunningham’s Song For Rachael is up there, as is Sunshine Over The Counter.

What’s next for you?

Over the summer I’ll be in and out of the studio finishing the album! I’ll also be continuing to develop and dream up my live show for the new year while juggling my other touring commitments.

What’s your scene?

My local, Sorsi E Morsi in St Kilda on a Thursday night. Spaghetti Bolegense, a glass of wine and great friends sharing vivid conversation about music, life and big dreams.
