Q&A Scene: Charlie Bedford

Artist: Charlie Bedford

Tell us about your new single DayDream?
It’s the first single & title track of my new album due in Feb 2025. I wrote it over the lockdown time about an internal conflict around procrastination – although it has many other meanings too! The music just came all at once jamming along then started mumbling some words & bam it all happened. Took it to the studio a couple years later, worked with top bloke Mark Lowrie @ Guffland Studios, spoke to my talented friend Nikota Kelly who created the fantastic artwork and here we are!

What’s your favourite work at this point in time? (your own work)
I’m really loving playing my old song “No Rain No Flowers” at the moment, it’s got a few different sections & I love the driving groove + pace changes of the song. The lyrics are interesting too.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Pizza! Because it’s cheesy, fun & very enjoyable usually.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
I recently had the privilege of performing with Aussie pop rock indie legends “Custard”. A magazine did a review of one of the shows we played together & they said I was David McCormack’s son. Absolutely hilarious, it’s a family band now.

What, or who, inspires you?
I’ll give you three inspiring people in my life rather than bands or artists! My dad has been a great inspiration, always music around the house & just an all round legend, so big thanks to him (& mum of course!). My guitar teacher growing up was a super guy named “Phil Smith”. He inspired me so much, created gig opportunities & opened up my musical world – discovering so many brilliant sounds. Last but not least my mate & old neighbor – “Jason Resch”. Jase was always so cool (still is) he’s had great success with his music & particularly with his songwriting, massive influence & help for me, proving that you can do it & there’s many roads that you can take. Smart man!

Which song do you wish you wrote?
So many… Let’s go with “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” – Tears For Fears.

What’s next for you?
More music! A couple more singles, then my new album due for release in Feb 2025! Writing always & continuing the never ending tour. Some band shows in the new year too, I’m very excited to get that going!

What’s your scene?
Playing Solitaire, doesn’t get me where you would. & honey you could, play any rules that you name. What’s my scene? (Couldn’t resist sorry – what a tune.)
