Tell us about your involvement in ‘Sedition 2019’?
My band the Flaming Hands are doing a gig at Paddo RSL along with The Aints!, Shy Impostors, The Professors and Dr DJ Rock on Saturday 31 st August. I’m very delighted to be a part of ‘Sedition’ as I’m a Sydney girl through and through, I grew up in Wylde Street, Kings Cross/Potts Point, right in the thick of it. I was in several underground bands in the mid to late 70’s and 80’s and so it’s an honour being a part of a festival that recognizes and celebrates the alternative … that is definitely one of my scenes.
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
I guess I would have to say that whatever I’m currently working on would have to be my favourite because it’s new, fresh and evolving. One of the new FH songs, written by Jeff Sullivan, we’ll be playing at the gig, is called ‘Sons and Daughters’, I’m still developing the vocal line, I always sing things a little bit different every time, but I love drawing out the full emotion of the words with tone and vocal phrasing, it’s what I love doing.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote ….
Oh yeah, once we played on a Russian Cruise ship to nowhere called The Alexander Pushkin, we hit high seas not far out. We were having to play every night. Most of us (not me I have a cast iron stomach .. I’ve only ever vomited once) became violently ill, especially poor Jeff. He had to have a bucket on stage (not a good look) and would take time out for a quick spew here and there, he spewed so much he burst all the blood vessels around his eyes and looked like a friendly panda bear. It’s one of those occurrences that although a nightmare at the time, we laugh about in retrospect ..haha!
What, or who inspires you?
Martin Luther King Jnr
Which song do you wish you wrote?
Warwick and I watched The Tracker a few weeks ago directed by Rolph de Heer, it’s a fantastic movie with an amazing soundtrack sung my Archie Roach, I wish I’d written the soundtrack to that movie, as far as I know the music was written by Graham Tardiff and lyrics by Rolph de Heer. I find it thoroughly shameful being an anglo person in Australia when our government won’t have proper recognition of our First Peoples in our Constitution. It is an utter disgrace. I could go on ……………….
What’s next for you?
I’ve got lots of ideas I’m not at liberty to divulge at this stage so let’s see ……
What’s your scene?
Vibing with the birds and trees in our garden in Korora!
