Q&A Scene: John Bowker ~ BORN LION

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?

Our new single is called ‘Sunshine’. It’s a high energy rock’n’roll extravaganza. It was recorded at ABC studios in Sydney. We have a crap load of shows over the new few months to get the word out.. we’re also really stoked to be doing a bunch of shows with Ezekiel Ox through June!

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?

Hmmm.. I’d actually say this new track.. it feels like a more cohesive effort from us and we’ve developed and honed our song writing chops a bit more.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

Once there was a drunk..possibly on heroin guy half passed out in his car blocking the driveway to our hotel. We tried to coerce him to move so we could get in. When we asked him very politely to move his car he turned to us and said ‘Whaddya think im tryna do dickhead’. It has now become a catch phrase that is used often on tour.

Optional question: How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

Toblerone – We’re a bit hard to get your mouth around but when you do you can’t stop eating us.. it.. mmm chocolate.

What, or who, inspires you?

Josh Homme, Jon Toogood… any performer who put it all on the line in the name of rock’n’roll!

Which song do you wish you wrote?

Captain by Something For Kate.. banger!

What’s next for you?

After all these shows wrap up in August I think we’ll have a quick nap then the plan is to get to work writing an EP that we hope to record early 2020.

What’s your scene?

Good quality rock and punk music. I personally like stuff that has darker overtones and lyrics that are a bit cheeky.
