Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
As a professional musician it may come as a surprise that in order to earn money we are usually required to perform music that we would not ordinaily listen to.
A couple of years Gavin Pearce and Dan Conway whilst touring with a Country outfit, were listening to James Taylor in the car as they drove to the next gig and expressed how awesome it would be to be playingthis amazing music to live audiences all over Australisia rather than playing the uninspiring regular gig tunes that were feeding our families.
Hence we gathered this cohort of not only likeminded musicians but also they happen to be the best in their field.
Our current tour is no exception as there appears to be a strong correlation between great musicians and the appreciation of James Taylor’s music.
This being the only Melbourne tour this year is a spring clean of the soul. We all share the same passion for this music that appears to sadly overlooked by the commercial radio stations in this country.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Southern fried chicken is the food we liken our music to for two reasons:
1. It is often referred to as soul food.
2. And James Taylor is from South Carolina where this dish seems to be the staple down there. (Think music for the soul – You can’t help but feel uplifted)
Which song resonates most strongly and why?
One of the defining characteristics of his songs is that he tells stories of real life events with humour and intelligence. Such a fine story teller that it is difficult to name just one as they all resonate in some way. If you are alive you will know what we mean and how it is living a human life.
Any on the road anecdotes?
In terms of touring you cant tell what country you are in by standing at the baggage claim.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
As musicians we draw our inspiration from great music and excellent players. James Taylor clearly draws his inspiration from life and is not afraid to sing about the hard times, which he has lived many.
