Tell us about your new single/album/tour?
John Paul Patton (bass/vocal): “Galaksi Palapa” is our first EP. We can also call it a concept album because it has one theme. All 5 songs in the EP will form a single story line, about a mission to migrate the world’s nice, peaceful people to a new galaxy cause planet earth is at war, humans on earth are against each other because of their egos. So it’s like science fiction, comic stories, haha. It’ll be released in vinyl 12 inch format and sold in limited numbers. But before that we’ll also be releasing 7 inch containing a single from that EP plus one new unreleased song. Invitation from The Cherry Rock Festival will fall on the same time with the release of our 7 inch single.
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
I Gusti Vikranta (drums): Probably performing in various cities in Indonesia and meeting new friends & fans. We really love to hit the road!
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote…
John Paul Patton: One time we were on stage in Surabaya. We were in the middle of our set and suddenly the power went out. At that moment we were afraid that it might anger the audience somehow. But surprisingly what happened was quite the opposite. The hall roared with laughter and kept on singing without music. After 10 minutes the power went back on and we continued the rest of the set.
What, or who, inspires you?
Rey Marshall (guitar/vocal): Our biggest inspiration in music will always be Indonesian legendary bands who famed in the 70’s such as Duo Kribo, Panbers, and AKA. If you wanna know the best 70’s Indonesia rock bands, find a compilation called “Those Shocking Shaking Days” (released by Now-Again Records, 2011) on Spotify and get ready to be amazed!
Which song do you wish you wrote?
Rey Marshall: “Haai” – Panbers, one of the best rock songs owned by Indonesia. The song has psychedelic rhythms with absurd lyrics but it has tremendous allure.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
John Paul Patton: Beef Rendang. Rich with spices and sizzling hot!
What’s next for you?
I Gusti Viki: We’ll release a new single “Berita Angkasa” on 7 inch; released by our record label, Berita Angkasa Records, collaborating with one of the best new label in Australia, Sacred Blue Records. Also, we can’t wait to play in Cherry Rock 2017 next May!
What’s your scene?
Rey Marshall: We think it’s like; college students, who have long hair, and consider Zeppelin and Sabbath as their God. Ha!
I’m James Young, the owner and booker of Cherry Bar and CherryRock017. I figure, who better to hear from, about our latest and greatest 11th annual AC/DC Lane street rock n roll festival, than yours truly, so listen up…
We’ve got legendary San Francisco garage punks Dwarves. Southern rock/ psychobilly from Atlanta’s Nashville Pussy. The incredible female two-piece, Bala, from Spain, who sound like Patti Smith out front of Motorhead. Bottlecap must be the bastard triplets of fellow Swedish rockers The Hives and The Hellacopters. Plus the best rock n roll coming from our Indonesian neighbours in Mooner and Kelompok Penerbang Roket (KPR).
But lest we forget our locals. We had to have Totally Unicorn from Wollongong, who ripped River Rocks a new arsehole last year. The sexy psych-blues of Child. Debbie Harry out front of Eddy Current Suppression Ring is how I see lo-fi garage punksters Amyl & The Sniffers. From the “ninch” (Mornington Peninsula) comes the band on everyone’s lips Stiff Richards, plus the 2016 Cherry Awards Act of the Year, Zombitches. And we’ve still got some incredible aces up our sleeves people! So, don’t miss it and buy your tix early, blah, blah, blah.
