Q&A Scene: Charles Watson of Slow Club

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
We are touring from October until the end of the year! Hopefully we will get to Oz sometime next year! We made the record in Richmond Virginia with Matthew E White and the Spacebomb band.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?

I’ve just completely mastered my Spanish Omelette recipe and I think that’s my finest work to date. It took a while to get there. Use a few eggs as you can get away with, and an extra yolk.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

Probably a sandwich your friend bought, didn’t finish and then left at your house but you’re not sure if he/she is coming back for it.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

We were mixing our last record and Jarvis Cocker came in to use the minidisc player and sat with us for 10 minutes.

What, or who, inspires you?

Raymond Carver.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

Ruby, don’t take your love to town – Kenny Rogers

What’s next for you?

We’re both working on solo records, so I guess just getting that done in between touring commitments.

What’s your scene?

Worrying about the 20-50% chance our existence is a matrix style virtual reality and that everything we see, hear and know is just a simulation. That and old keyboards.
