Snap Scene: War on Women at Download Festival, Paramatta Park. 9th March 2019

Baltimore co-ed feminist hardcore-punk band War On Women were born screaming at the world, formed in 2011 from a solid foundation of driving riffs and in your face vocals that attack the listener both sonically and lyrically! Penning catchy and confrontational songs that touch on rape culture, street harassment, the gender wage gap, transphobia, and other vitally pertinent social issues. They have been touring relentlessly since the release of their debut self-titled full LP in 2015. War On Women are neither a crew of young bucks nor a contagion of seasoned legends. They don’t fit neatly into metalloid machismo or hulking hardcore tropes. They have nothing to prove, and there’s nothing more delightfully dangerous than that.

Snap Scene: Foxing – Reverence Hotel, Melbourne – 27th Feb 2019

Foxing recently released their highly-anticipated third album, Nearer My God, on August 10th via Triple Crown/Cooking Vinyl Australia. Created over the course of nearly 3 years, Nearer My God was produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists) and Foxing guitarist and songwriter Eric Hudson, with help from Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Modern Baseball).

Once firmly planted in emo’s twinkling moods, Foxing now stretches out to soaring heights. All thundering bass and sirens of guitar strings, “Nearer My God” is something akin to David Bowie‘s “Heroes” (an acknowledged influence on this record).

Snap Scene: A Place To Bury Strangers (APTBS) – Cherry Bar, Melbourne – 27th Feb 2019

Formed in 2003 when Oliver Ackermann offered to drum for a friend’s band but by the end of the first practice Ackermann had switched to guitar and vocals and APTBS was born.

Quickly garnering acclaim from their stunning performances with Brian Jonestown Massacre, it has been the band’s increasingly chaotic live performances that built their legion of fans and seen them applauded as the revival of “the ominous, feedback-drenched drones of the 1980s” The New York Times.
