Tell us about your new single ‘The Devil’
My single The Devil just came out, it’s about temptation and I am inviting you to discuss it. I had a clear subject I wanted to discuss. I was thinking of temptation as a representation of the Devil, not necessarily as a physical being, but as anything that pulls us away from who we’re meant to be. I believe we’re all walking our own path with purpose and along the way these temptations appear, trying to distract us. They can take many forms: addiction, ego, fear, unhealthy relationships, peer pressure, or anything else that draws us away from our values.
What’s your favourite work of your own?
I wrote a song called Serious – it’s my favourite and most fun song to perform live. I also remember where I was sitting and how upset I was when I wrote it, only for it to now be played at festivals and sung at shows. It makes going through pain worth it.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
A Japanese teriyaki chicken don with broccoli and bok choi. Obviously because it’s delicious and tasty, just like my music, but also because it’s fresh, filling, warm and heartfelt.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
One time I was driving to Mt Beauty and my wheel guard fell off my car wheel so I had to try to stick it back on with gaffa tape because I couldn’t fully pull it off.
On my newest track, The Devil, I was actually really sick when I sang it but I kept the original vocals because it made the track so laid back and conversational. It’s more realistic to honour how you are in the moment, at times.
What, or who, inspires you?
The soulful grooves of Jamiroquai, the fearless expression of Erykah Badu, the raw honesty of Amy Winehouse and the powerhouse vocals and range of Ariana Grande. I also get very inspired by podcasts about growth and manifestation.

What’s next for you?
My new album Contrast comes out July 29th and will also be released on Vinyl so pre-orders have begun. I am so excited to finally share my debut album. I also have new videos to release with my beautiful band who will be playing with me at my Album Launch on August 8th at Wax Music Lounge, followed by international shows at Ubud Folk Festival in Bali and Chengdu Sister Youth Music Festival in China!
What’s your scene?
A beautiful glass of pinot noir watching some really good music on a nice night or at a festival. An artist with great vocals, an amazing band that knows dynamics and tells the story through their performance as artists. The Matt Corby concert at the forum was fantastic.
