Tell us about your new ep, The Man You Remember?
The Man You Remember is a fragmented and uncanny retelling of the story of my own life from adolescence into young adulthood. I wrote it from the ages of 17-22 and almost used the EP as my own little journal of all the moments I wanted to recall and retell when I got older or even through a new lens. I spent a lot of time piecing moments and realisations together while making this record, and realised that memory is definitely a very tricky thing.
What’s your favourite song from the EP? (your own work)
Right now my favourite song on the EP would have to be Winter. It’s a song about my grandfather and me trying to understand the world from his perspective as his memory was declining. It’s a sad one but it is one that I am the most proud of.
How would you describe The Man You Remember sound in food form and why?
I think it would sound like a chocolate cake. It’s rich and sweet and sometimes a bit too flavourful.
Tell us a quick anecdote from the making of this project?
I think one of my favourite memories is how the song Overpass came to be. My producer and I had just been to a show and spent a long time talking about mental health and our feelings and our own stories. And around 12am I was about to go home and we both decided to just go inside and write a song about it. It took about 30 minutes for overpass to be born from that moment. It’s one of my favourite songs i’ve ever written.
What, or who, inspired the EP?
I think the EP was definitely inspired by my family. We have always documented everything and I think for me this EP was a way to document a fundamental moment in my life
Out of every song on Earth, which song do you wish you had written?
I wish I wrote Lover You Should’ve Come Over by Jeff Buckley. It is one of my favourite songs of all time.
What’s next for you? Maybe some interstate shows?
I would love to do some interstate shows. Live shows are definitely in the works
What’s your scene?
My scene is definitely my insanely talented friends and family and being surrounded by art and love and fashion.
The Man You Remember is OUT NOW.
