Scene News: LA’s Silversun Pickups Celebrate Carnavas at a Free Melbourne Event at PUNTERS CLUB Tonight

Before Silversun Pickups take to stages across Australia on their long-awaited return, Melbourne fans have the chance to experience something truly special tonight.

The Los Angeles alt-rock favourites are teaming up with The Punters Club for a free 20th anniversary celebration of their landmark debut album, Carnavas.

The one-night-only event kicks off at 6:00pm, with a Q&A session moderated by Triple R’s Tristen Harris, giving fans an opportunity to hear firsthand stories behind the album that launched the band’s international career. The discussion will be followed by an intimate acoustic performance, offering a rare chance to hear songs from Carnavas stripped back in an up-close setting.

The celebrations won’t end there. From 8:00pm, members of Silversun Pickups will step behind the DJ decks for a special set, turning the evening into a celebration of both the band’s legacy and the music that has inspired them.

Released in 2006, Carnavas introduced the world to Silversun Pickups’ distinctive blend of shimmering guitars, soaring melodies and emotionally charged songwriting. The album featured the breakthrough single “Lazy Eye”, which would go on to achieve Platinum certification, helping establish the quartet as one of alternative rock’s defining acts of the 2000s.

For longtime fans, tonight is more than an anniversary—it’s a chance to revisit the album that started it all alongside the band themselves. For newer listeners, it’s the perfect introduction before the group embarks on their Australian tour.

With free entry and a unique combination of conversation, live music and DJ sets, tonight’s event promises to be one of Melbourne’s standout music gatherings.

Silversun Pickups Return to Australia and New Zealand

The Melbourne celebration also marks the beginning of Silversun Pickups’ first Australian and New Zealand tour in 14 years.

The GRAMMY® Award-nominated quartet are touring in support of their seventh studio album, Tenterhooks, released earlier this year. The record features the singles “The Wreckage,” “New Wave” and “Long Gone,” with critics praising its cinematic scope and powerful songwriting.

Fans can also expect plenty of favourites spanning the band’s acclaimed catalogue, including material from Carnavas, Swoon and Neck of the Woods, featuring classics such as “Lazy Eye” and “Panic Switch.”

Joining Silversun Pickups throughout the tour are New Zealand indie-rock outfit Coast Arcade.

If tonight’s celebration is any indication, Australian fans are in for a memorable return from one of alternative rock’s most enduring and influential bands.

GRAMMY® Award-nominated Los Angeles quartet Silversun Pickups are returning to Australia and New Zealand for the first time in 14 years. The acclaimed rockers will be belting out tracks from their brand new album Tenterhooks along with fan favourites from their timeless discography.

Known for their emotionally charged alt-rock anthems, the band’s rich catalogue continues to resonate with generations of fans, from huge single “Lazy Eye” and Gold-certified “Panic Switch” to acclaimed albums including Carnavas (2006), Swoon (2009) and Neck of the Woods (2012).

Released in February, the band unveiled their seventh studio album Tenterhooks. An unapologetic 10-track collection featuring singles “The Wreckage”, “New Wave” and “Long Gone”, Tenterhooks captures Silversun Pickups at their most electrifying with Sputnik Music calling it, “undeniably cinematic”

A highly anticipated return for fans across the country, the band will be heading up Perth’s Astor Theatre, The Gov in Adelaide, The Tivoli in Brisbane, Hobart’s Odeon, Melbourne’s Forum and The Enmore in Sydney before crossing the pond to Auckland to play The Powerstation. Joining them on the tour is New Zealand indie-rock band Coast Arcade.

Thriving as one of the most consistent and quietly impactful alt-rock bands of this century, Silversun Pickups remain an absolute force. Breaking through in 2006 with Carnavas, the album reached certified Gold before stand-out single “Lazy Eye” achieved Platinum-certified success. Off the back of their 2009 release Swoon, the band earned themselves a GRAMMY® nomination for Best New Artist in 2010 before climbing the Billboard charts, reaching No. 1 for single “Panic Switch”.

Renowned for their electrifying live shows, Silversun Pickups have performed on some of the world’s biggest festival stages including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Osheaga, while touring alongside major acts such as Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, OK Go and Wolfmother.
