The Fabulous Caprettos Rock Melbourne

The Fabulous Caprettos’ show was a celebration of great music, bringing together some of Australia’s most respected and loved performers. From classic rock anthems to much loved ballads, the audience was treated to  a memorable night of live music.

Perth-based singer-songwriter Jason Ayres delivered the opening set.  His original track “Wild River” showcased his songwriting and smooth vocal style, while his soulful rendition of Chris Isaak’s “Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing” offered a fresh take on the classic. He closed with “Coming Back to You”.  Ayres provided an authentic and engaging introduction to the main act.

Multi-award winner Joe Camilleri, an icon of Australian music since the 1970s and 80s, delivered a powerful performance that showcased his signature blend of rhythm, blues, and rock. A master of the saxophone and rhythmic guitar, with distinctive vocals, Joe was a standout favourite on the night. Highlights included “Shape I’m In”; “Harley & Rose”, performed with signature energy and passion; “Daughters of Glory”, with its folk-rock-blues blend and soulful delivery; and “Chained to the Wheel”, with gritty vocals, punchy sax, and rich harmonies.

Dave Gleeson (The Screaming Jets / The Angels) brought rock energy to the stage. His performance of “Helping Hand” struck a chord with the crowd, while “Shivers” had fans of all ages rocking along to his gritty, powerful vocals.

Jack Jones (Southern Sons) impressed with soaring vocals and masterful guitar work. He connected effortlessly with the crowd with favourites like “Hold Me in Your Arms”, “Always and Ever”, and “Heart in Danger” — each delivered with polish, emotion, and signature style.

Rai Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc / Joe Satriani / Sammy Hagar) was powerful on both piano and guitar. “In the Summertime” became a standout group pleaser with backing vocals from Gleeson, Camilleri, and Jones. His rendition of “Someday, Someday” was well delivered and warmly received.

Wendy Matthews, the evening’s special guest, was a standout. “Let’s Kiss (Like Angels Do)” was powerful and moving, followed by a soulful version of “I Don’t Want To Be With Nobody But You”, performed with all the warmth and expression fans have come to love.

This was a truly memorable night, celebrating the strength of Australian rock and the enduring power of live music.
