Q&A Scene: TsuShiMaMiRe

Tell us about your latest single/album/ tour.

Mari : Our latest singles are “Ice Cream Punk” and “Unagi Boogie” !
Both are inspired by our favorite foods.

We started the “ICE CREAM PUNK TOUR” last year in Japan, North America, & Europe, and now finally we’re here in Australia!!!

It’s the perfect season for Ice Cream in Australia!

*What’s your favourite work at this point in time? (your own or your group’s work)

Mari: I loved writing Ice Cream Punk.
I’m singing about my love and relationships through this song.
It’s sweet and tasty, also it’s melting slowly or sometimes very quickly.

Yayoi: The most fun time for me is when I’m making music, but at the same time it’s also the most difficult time.
A fun, stress-free time is when I’m thinking about the size and number of T-shirts to make for the tour, because I’m imagining the audience I haven’t met yet.

Asami: I especially love “LIVE IN TOKYO 2024 – MIZUMONO -” released last February. I just joined the band in 2025, so it’s a work where I can strongly feel the history and passion of TsuShiMaMiRe, along with the great work left behind by the previous drummer.

*Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

Yayoi: We saw a kangaroo crossing the road while driving in Australia! It really made me realize we were in Australia.

*What, or who, inspires you?

Mari: I loved Japanese 80’s – 00’s pop music.
I was a Karaoke lover before starting my band.
I especially loved singing Seiko Matsuda & Tomomi Kahara.
My guitar hero was Tomoyasu Hotei from BOΦWY and Kenichi Asai from Blankey Jet City.
As for non-Japanese bands, I love 60 -70’s NY punk or psychedelic music.
I love The Velvet Underground, Talking Heads and Television.

Yayoi: Chopin

Asami: I love Dave Fridmann’s productions and bands he has worked with.
It’s my dream to visit his Tarbox Road Studio someday.

*Which song do you wish you wrote?

Mari : Kate Bush “Wuthering Heights”
Queen “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Yayoi: something by Rage against the Machine

Asami: THE FLAMING LIPS “One More Robot / Sympathy 3000-21”

*What’s next for you?

Mari : We have some big shows in Japan!
We have a show with Jun Togawa at Shinjuku LOFT in Tokyo!
She is a legendary singer in Japan!
We use her song “SUKI SUKI DAISUKI(好き好き大好き)” for our opening BGM for the show long time.

*How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

Mari: My first idea was to sing about real life situations that often go unnoticed.
So I choose themes from my everyday life, about food, drink, love…

*Ice Cream Punk is the name of your latest single and current tour Wha flavour of Ice Cream are you?

Mari: Choco mint!

Yayoi: Rum raisin

Asami: Black sesame

*What’s your scene?

Mari: I love to sing and create my favorite things!
Also I love to show people TsuShiMaMiRe all over the world!
I will keep on rocking !

Yayoi: I love touring all of the countries. And see many fans, friends and have new experiences!!

Asami: I love nature and animals.
That’s why I love Australia!
I’m so happy to connect with many people in this country through our music!

TsuShiMaMiRe are currently touring Australia.
