The Sea Gypsies Band Member: Dan – Guitar
Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
Demons is a snapshot of the bands influences, mixed together to express the relatable feeling of facing the fears and rigorous moments in your life that attempt to overcome you and put you down. It conveys the feeling, idea and emotion of stepping up to face your Demons and the struggle of embracing the difficult issues that life throws at you – Dan
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
Working on our debut album release for 2018. Working with the boys and their different styles of music has been perfect for the band. Most of our songs just come from jamming on one of the boys ideas, so it’s great to see the influences from everyone seeping into our music.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
First night on tour we had to sleep on the side of the highway with no blankets, warm beers and in the middle of winter. There was an incident involving the police and a man was killed on the highway so she was a little rocky to kick off. So making the worst out of a sh*t situation we grabbed the guitars started playing some tunes and before you know it people had crowded around with a couple of king browns to sit back and enjoy the night.
What, or who, inspires you?
Honestly, just great music. We have such a mix of influences in the band so I guess it’s inspiring when one of the guys comes in with something that I would never have thought to listen to. It can definitely influence exploring new sounds and directions
Which song do you wish you wrote?
Holy Holy’s – That Message. That tune is just a great example of a clever writing style that’s brilliantly executed and if I were those blokes i’d be
What’s next for you?
Probably a cold beer after this interview but in terms of music I guess whatever comes our way. We want to get our music to as much people as we can, and are working on an album for early 2018
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
A nice warm dog’s eye and a cold beer because let’s be honest we’re not a dirty rats coffin
About the Sea Gypsies
The Sea Gypsies turned heads in 2016 described by Happy Mag as “A bunch of worldly Central Coast nomads who dabble in rhythmic rock and roll that has been seeped in dub influences and laid out in the sun to bake” and were quickly snapped up to play festivals such as Lost Paradise, Mountain Sounds, Beyond the Valley, as well as a slew of supports for Australian and International greats Harts, Ash Grunwald, Winston Surfshirt, Paul Kelly and The Beautiful Girls. The 5 piece are being heralded as a “must-see” live act.
