Q&A Scene: Queen Of Darts

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
Our new single ‘Can You Get Enough?’ is a progression in our style, improving our writing skills with regards to writing parts for two guitars and developing a punchier sound. The song relates to playing live and sharing the energy when you’re having a great time with all your mates and fans around.
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
Our favourite work is the music we haven’t released yet! Lots of exciting stuff to come…Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
[pullquote] We are kind of in between those with some great melodic elements while keeping our core grungy and rock orientated.[/pullquote] All of our time in the studio is pretty funny. There’s just a lot of banter and not really much recording. Most of the time, Nik is working hard on the production while the rest of us are drinking beers and playing age of empires.

What, or who, inspires you?

We inspire each other but are all inspired by our own lives – the relationships we form and emotions we experience.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

Everlong – Foo Fighters
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Butter chicken: you expect it to be hot and spicy because its a curry… but its actually rich and smooth.
What’s next for you?

Continue releasing more music.

What’s your scene?

Our scene is not really prevalent in Adelaide among the hardcore and indie scenes. We are kind of in between those with some great melodic elements while keeping our core grungy and rock orientated.

About Queen Of Darts

Queen of Darts were originally a band known as Soundgasm formed by a group of schoolmates around 2009, which continued to prosper and finally found a solid lineup in 2013. After jamming together as a group mates for a long time, their writing chemistry grew and as such began to write original songs and playing gigs at some of Adelaide’s favourite local music venues.

The band consist of the mighty vocals of Blake Trenorden who also doubles up on bass, the tasty beats of Nikolas Galanopoulos, the tight rhythms of Lucas Cooper and the rampant riffage of Richie Mould.

“Can You Get Enough?” is a song ultimately inspired by playing live. Queen of Darts originally wrote it as a set opener, with punchy riffs and a big chorus, but the song slowly developed into a great lead single.

“Lyrically the song is about playing music live, with all of your mates in the crowd, drinking beers and singing along. It is an ode to all of our friends and family who have supported us so far. However, in a broader context, it is about having a great time with good company, and doing things that give you a sense of fulfilment. I absolutely love playing the track live and it translates perfectly as a lead single,” says the band.

“Can You Get Enough?” was recorded at G-Labs studio (AKA Nik’s house). Nik engineered the recording sessions, and the song production was a combination of all band members’ input. Check the band’s Facebook page for updates on upcoming shows in 2016!
