Q&A Scene: OPIUO

Tell us about your new tour?

I’ve been busy making a whole stack of new music this summer & just got off a crazy North American tour with the band, so now it’s finally time to debut all this new music for our awesome Australian family. We’re being a huge light & laser show with us too. It’s about to get wild a fuck!

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?

I’d have to say I recently fell back in love with my album Meraki. I just revisited it & felt overwhelming pride. I’m not one to blow my own horn, but I was quietly stoked I wrote it.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

Chunkily crumbled crunk slice covered in luscious lashings of sexy ass slap sauce. Organic of course.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

I once opened for MC hammer at a private google party in San Francisco. He didn’t wear hammer pants, but luckily I did.

What, or who, inspires you?

I know it’s broad, but absolutely everything does. Recently I’ve moved to northern NSW & I’m inspired as hell up here. Also immersing myself deep into a fully fledged festival freak show often leaves me dripping with inspiration & ideas. I love parties & people.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

Parisi feat. RZA – No Refuge

What’s next for you?

Finishing my next releases including collaborating with someone of my idols. Playing festivals in North America all summer long. Living it up. Spreading positivity & extremely serious amounts of silliness.

What’s your scene?

The place where the funnest people hang out.

[pullquote]‘A true genius’ – Dancing Astronaut[/pullquote] Off-the-back of a North American tour, The Opiuo Band are armed with a stack of brand new music and a completely new live show. The 5-piece band create the perfect blend of raw, exciting live instrumentation, with the adventure of electronic music and a killer live performance.

The internationally acclaimed artist stormed onto the scene in 2010 with his single ‘Robo Booty’. His debut EP Slurp and Giggle was nominated for Best Independent Dance Album at the AIR Awards, and follow up release, album Meraki, took out Best Electronic Album at the New Zealand Music Awards.  Their latest album Omniversal is hard hitting electro funk, techno smothered instrumental soul and deeply melodic. With three studio albums under his belt and worldwide praise, Opiuo has sold out shows right across North America & Australasia, shared stages with the likes of Moby, Pete Tong, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and Bonobo, and has toured the planet, playing some of the biggest festivals including Coachella and Glastonbury.
