Q&A Scene: Neon Tetra

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?

‘Run From The Ruins’ is a tribute to some earlier influences of the band with a mellow 70s summer feel and a groove that you can really sit back into. It has been a lot of fun to experiment with sounds and this was a ruckus to make. We’ll be supporting the single with east coast shows, playing a bunch of new material featuring a lot of sax.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?

So far ‘Reflections’ has really stood out as a favorite of our fans and of ours. It introduced saxophone to the mix as a feature for the first time and has inspired us to write a soul rock EP, which will be out next year sometime.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

Vocalist Josh nearly missed our first headline show in Melbourne after his flight was delayed but arrived just before line check and absolutely killed it!

What, or who, inspires you?

Individually the band has many drivers of inspiration but together we all share an affair with French disco rock, the likes of Phoenix and Daft Punk. Throw in some funk and soul grooves with a touch of Motown like Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and The Supremes and that would sum up what we are immersed in at the moment.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

‘The Look’ by Metronomy. Lovely organ tone, cute little beat and then the bass drops in perfectly with the motion of the song. It’s just a beautiful piece of music every time, a real winner in my book.

What’s next for you?

We’ve been having a lot of fun creating this new EP full of nostalgic disco and rock elements from past parties and sweaty dance floors. There was such a good response to ‘Reflections’ that we plan on bringing the horns back on more of the tunes and touring in summer for some of our biggest shows yet.

What’s your scene?

Adelaide has a popping music scene at the moment with some great export acts.

About Neon Tetra

Neon Tetra have had a busy 2017 releasing singles ‘Telescopes’ and ‘Reflections’ to rave reviews “This sounds like The Beatles kicking it in 2017 with Tame Impala. That’s pretty darn cool”, “That horn section tho! What an interesting, fun jam!” – Triple J Unearthed.  Plus a swag of major supports including The Belligerents, Ecca Vandal and Miami Horror. Their hybrid pop rock grooves have made waves, and now the Adelaide four piece have delivered us their brand spanking new single ‘RUN FROM THE RUINS’

‘Run From The Ruins’ is a fuzzy rock marshmallow, filled with celestial synths, big drums, catchy guitar hooks and the band’s rhythm section locking down the pace with lazy summer feels. The track is full of earthy psychedelic textures crossed with 70s rock tones and an early Strokes x Tame Impala x Led Zeppelin sonic force that hits you right in the groove muscle.

“Run From The Ruins is all a fuzz-rocker, with celestial synths, big drums, catchy guitar hooks and an undeniably summery groove. Think T-Rex partying with Tame Impala and King Crimson and you’ll be in the right ball-park”. ROLLINGSTONE

“Straight from the introduction, you can tell these boys are down to earth, fun and obviously, hella talented”. HAPPY MAG

“They take cues from the likes of New Order, Tame Impala, Pink Floyd and David Bowie, the result is a combination of psychedelic rock, pop and new wave” THE MUSIC
