Tell us about your new album?
The new album is a collection of Christmas songs given fresh arrangements.
We’ve taken eleven traditional melodies, along with three new compositions, and arranged them with a surf rock feel and energy.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
My Mum’s excellent Christmas pudding with extra brandy because it’s her own recipe.
Which song resonates most strongly and why?
All the songs on the album have a purpose and depending on mood / time of day as to which song resonates the best.
Any on the road anecdotes?
Lots! But some I can tell.. Like the time I went to the wrong gig or the time I turned up to the gig without a guitar and had to borrow a kid’s beginners guitar – the scary part is that no one even noticed!
I was once in a band that travelled around in a bus, bit like the Partridge family bus, we used to tow a trailer with the bands gear in it. One time we were in the outback driving along, I looked out the bus window and saw the trailer traveling on its own and roll into a ditch on the side of the road. Seems someone forget to put on the safety chains connecting the trailer to the bus.
[pullquote]I’ve been on the road touring with Mental As Anything for the past 18 months [/pullquote]Then there was the time between the last song of the set and the encore that I needed to have a pee so I ran back stage and there was nowhere to go so I grabbed a half filled jug of water that was on a table…anyway, after the gig was done we came off stage and went to the band room, I walked in only to see the drummer drinking from the soiled jug of water, I tried to tell him but it was too late.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I’ve been on the road touring with Mental As Anything for the past 18 months and their art of crafting the perfect pop song has (hopefully) worn off onto me as an influence in arranging this album of songs.
What’s next for you?
Doing a few gigs with my own band, more touring Australia with Mental As Anything and then on to writing and recording a new instro album.
What’s your scene?
Mum’s Christmas cake, old guitars and more touring.
