Q&A Scene: Liz Stringer

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
I’ve put together an interview series at the Gasometer Hotel in Collingwood in June called the Big Tuesday String-A-Long. I’ll be interviewing four of my songwriting heroes about their life in music and their relationship with their art. And we’ll be playing a few tunes together as well.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
I think my most recent album, All The Bridges, is my favourite body of work so far. I recorded it in Portland, Oregon and it was the beginning of a big new phase of creativity for me, which had been hibernation for a while.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
I think having a privately chartered helicopter ride with my hosts in Cottesloe, WA, the other day was pretty up there with one of the best things I’ve experienced on the road this year, at least!!

What, or who, inspires you?
People inspire and interest me. The ones I know, the ones I don’t know, the ones I read and hear about. Everyone has a fascinating story, wherever they’re from.

Which song do you wish you wrote?
Into The Mystic by Van Morrison

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
I reckon it’s a good soup stock. A combination of a lot of ingredients that can be used for a lot of different stuff. Or something…?

What’s next for you?
I’m on tour with my friend Tim Moxam from Toronto right now and when I get back from that tour I’ll be conducting the Big Tuesday String-A-Long at the Gasometer throughout June, interviewing (and playing some tunes with) Dr Lou Bennett (Tuesday 6th June), Deborah Conway (Tuesday 13th June), Neil Murray (Tuesday 20th June) and Mick Thomas (Tuesday 27th June).

What’s your scene?
A strong coffee and a sea view.
