Q&A Scene: Kristen Lee Morris

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?

Solo it’s my record RUINS which I put out in 2014 (produced by Kasey Chambers). It’s a swampy heartbreaker. I feel I realised something artistically which I had never quite nailed before. With my band, Eagle & The Wolf, it’s our self titled record that we put out last year. It’s full of love and magic.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.

In 2016 I toured AUS with Corey Harris who is a great, authentic blues man from the US. On the first day of the tour I flew to Melbourne to meet him as he flew in from LA. On arrival the airline had lost Corey’s guitar. That sucked. When we got to the hotel the staff were also being very difficult. I think they thought we were poor blues musicians or something. I decided to go and park the hire van in the hotel carpark and calm myself down. As I was a bit flustered and tired I drove the van right through the parking ticket machine as turned into the carpark. The machine ended up through the side of the car and into the back window. I had to go upstairs and tell the staff that I had done a lot of damage to their carpark entry. They were mad. The van has about $10k damage but we gaffed it up and kept on trucking. The next day a taxi ran into me while I was parked getting a coffee. It was a bumpy little ride.

What, or who, inspires you?

I’m inspired by my friends that are creating great work – they inspire me to keep working harder.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

At the moment it’s “Willin'” by Little Feat.

What’s next for you?

Playing some shows with Moreland & Arbuckle and working on two new releases this year. A new solo record and a new Eagle & The Wolf record. Let’s see what happens!

What’s your scene?

I am the blues guy that plays with the country people.

KRISTEN LEE MORRIS IS FORGING A REPUTATION AS ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S FINEST, AND MOST HONEST, COUNTRY & BLUES MUSICIANS. HIS SONGS CUT TO THE HEART AND ON STAGE WITH HIS GUITAR HE CAN TEAR THE HOUSE DOWN. AUDIENCES ARE AT ONCE CAPTIVATED AND BLOWN AWAY. ABSOLUTE TRUTH AND PASSION DIRECTED THROUGH A MICROPHONE AND A CRANKED GUITAR AMPLIFIER. THERE IS NO-ONE LIKE HIM.
HIS RECORD RUINS (NOV. 2014), A SWAMPY HEARTBREAKER PRODUCED BY KASEY CHAMBERS UP AT FOGGY MOUNTAIN STUDIOS, HAS OPENED HIS MUSIC UP TO AUDIENCES AROUND THE COUNTRY. RECORDED TOTALLY LIVE WITH AN ALL-STAR BAND (KASEY CHAMBERS, BILL CHAMBERS, JEFF MCCORMACK, STEVE FEARNLEY), THE ALBUM IS A SPONTANEOUS EXPLOSION OF HEART AND SOUL.

RECENTLY, HE HAS SHARED THE STAGE WITH THE LIKES OF KASEY CHAMBERS, BILL CHAMBERS, JEFF LANG, THE ALVIN BROTHERS (USA) AND BEEN ON TOUR WITH THE FUMES.
