Q&A Scene: Kate Cebrano

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?

I’m currently recording on my 25th album. Mostly known songs, some duets with some of the artists that I’ve worked with over the years. I feel in love with the Robert plant alison krauss record and have been applying that lovely earthy country sound to the production. Playing piano and drums ( when they let me :) just because….!

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?

A luau!  Food that makes you find a harmony and sing along.

Which of your songs resonate most strongly and why?

“Brave” has been a stoic friend over the years. Styles of production go in and out of vogue, but that song has held steady for the entire journey. The message remains as relevant today for me as the day it was written.

Tell us a quick, on the road, anecdote.

I always think the most rock n roll thing I’ve ever done, was getting a tattoo because Angry ANDERSON told me that the famous tattooist from “the illustrated man” was in Hindley st…! And if I’d ever wanted one, she was the chick to see!

I was 25 at the time, experiencing one of the most memorable experiences of my career touring Jesus Christ Superstar! The memory is engraved in indelible ink… On my ass!

Where do you draw inspiration from?

From different places, people mostly! Storytellers, authors, painters. Funnily enough from visual things rather than sonic.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

“Because the night”… Patti smith

What’s next for you?

I love collaboration. I’ve been composing music for a well known Aussie artist ( who shall remain nameless till our release) he sends me lyrics, I compose the music! We’ve never met! He calls me his mail order bride and I kinda like that… We should never meet! It might spoil the romance of the project.

What’s your scene?

Good question…I’m still working on that! But I think it’s always gonna be…. “more than I can manage, I’m a girl who wants to try everything!
