Q&A Scene: Josh Cashman

Tell us about your new single/tour?
‘Beauty In Grey’ is my latest single. The song is about making mistakes but finding beauty and acceptance in those moments. I am launching it at The Northcote Social Club on the 4th of August, & following that I am doing a Parlour house show tour.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
Definately ‘Beauty In Grey’. It explores a great happy medium between organic and electronic instrumentation and represents strongly where I am and want to be artistically.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
While touring the USA with Tash Sultana, we were on the way to Washington from Brooklyn, I released when we were half way that I had left my passport in Brooklyn & we had a flight early the next morning to LA. Luckily a friend of mine helped sort my scenario and my passport was in my hands within a few hours!

Which song do you wish you wrote?
Let It Happen – Tame Impala

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Tacos. You have the solid base (rythimic section) the eclectic mix of meat, salads and guacamole (guitars & synths) and to polish the taste and spice with sauces & coriander (Melodies, vocals & electronic textures over the top)

What’s next for you?
A few shows to celebrate ‘Beauty In Grey’ then to release another song and my EP! This will be happening at the end of August/early September – I’m fucking pumped !!!

What’s your scene?
My happy place is in the water surfing with my mates, anywhere here in Australia or Indonesia which is my home away from home. The scene of my my cheeky side is at Revs on a Sunday morning.

About Josh Cashman

‘Beauty In Grey’, the latest single from Josh Cashman is about finding and accepting the light in a dark place. It’s about making mistakes and finding beauty in those moments. Recorded at Smooch Studios in Brunswick you can hear the apartment-turned-studio captured in the recording. The high roof and open space giving an amazing natural reverb, creating very moody drums and guitars.

Hailing from Gippsland in regional Victoria Josh Cashman kicked off 2017 with three months of touring in the US including showcasing at SXSW, performing at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York and playing shows with Tash Sultana before returning home to a run of Australian tour dates including a sold out hometown show at Northcote Social Club.

Following previous releases ‘Wishful Imagery’ and ‘Listening’ the latest offering sees Cashman again team up with engineer and producer Nikita Mitiadou, the track mixed by Matthew Neighbor (Missy Higgins, Matt Corby) and mastered by Adam Dempsey (Courtney Barnett, Paul Kelly) at Deluxe Mastering.

“Humble, harmonic and heartfelt to the core, it’s no surprise that Josh Cashman’s honest style is taking the world by storm. His voice reveals strength, determination and a calibre of control that cannot be taught. He has raw talent!”
