Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
This is our first show outside of New Zealand so we are quite excited by the prospect of it! And playing with these Melbourne bands Mad Nanna and The In The Out. All put together in the space of a week by a lovely lady Rita Raine. It’s a pretty rock and roll name. And Billy from Ding Dong, pretty swishkebabs. Melbourne is great. You even get 10% off your meal if you come eat at Ding Dong too on the night of the gig – July 12th kitchen open from 6pm, gig from 8. Boom. Yum yum. So actually maybe a bit more Bisqueotequethe/Fried Green Yay/Jumbalayayay/Gumbowsome.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Single serve self saucing pudding – it’s an after dinner treat and it doesn’t take long to eat. And it has sauce. Fish sauce.
Which song resonates most strongly and why?
Aftershock probably because it is about the Christchurch earthquake (the first September less damaging more fun one) – Paul, Margaret and William are all from Christchurch. It’s shaking/Resonance/Distortion/Disaster/Squwelch. With guitars, drums and bass and singing. Actually that’s all it is. Rock’n’roll I guess.
Any on the road anecdotes?
We got stuck inside a car park building after visiting the Melbourne Aquarium a few days ago due to a faulty ticket payment machine. The ‘help’ button wasn’t going. And it was school holidays at the aquarium. And we had a radio interview in 5 minutes. Also we all just wanted a beer and maybe some chips. I guess you just had to be there. Oh, I guess it really wasn’t on the road technically. Hope that’s ok?
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Hilarious and often obtuse drunken spontaneity. Psychedelic silliness.
What’s next for you?
Our second E.P, The Unrealistic Expectations of The Flying Sorcerers, is currently being mixed and it should be released sometime within the next six months. It’s like the last ep only with a bit more sauce.
What’s your scene?
Ocean Colour Scene. Blue Oyster Cult. Reef. Always get those mixed up. Probably not Reef tho. Or Ocean Colour Scene. Or Blue Oyster Cult come to think of it.
