Q&A Scene: D Henry Fenton

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
The new album is called Twice I Fell Down Once…recorded in Hollywood with my band the Elizabethans (Dave Krusen – drums and Mary Beth Kedzior – bass) we are just about to launch it in LA at Hotel Cafe and did a small Australian tour in April. The latest song from the album going to radio in Australia is Tiny Pieces. I’ll head back to Australia later this year to play some more shows.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
I think this latest album is the most artistically realized, its not perfect by any means but we captured some great moments, it was all done fairly quickly with minimal overdubs. As a lot of musicians know there is always the temptation to do layers of music when one records.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
Ok the thing that came to mind happened quite a few years ago when I was touring with The Corrs, my band was the opener and we were driving from Launceston to Hobart I think, anyways we were going along at a nice speed when a HUGE spider came out of I don’t know where, and perched itself on the inside of the windscreen right in front of my drummer who was driving, he freaked out as we all did I mean, think a Tarantula, it was huge, in that moment of panic he lost control of the car and we careered down a slope on the side of the road we all jumped out of the car laughing our heads off, happy that we didn’t die.

What, or who, inspires you?
People with pure talent and vision, people who do courageous acts, people with empathy, nature inspires me, I was in upstate New York on the weekend and there were lightning bugs buzzing around like miniature exploding stars, that’s kind of what they look like and I was mesmerized.

Which song do you wish you wrote?
Under The Milky Way by The Church

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
What a weird question, Ok its like eating chocolate and drinking coffee a balance between sweet and slightly bitter

What’s next for you?
I have some shows in California this week and next week, then we send the new album to US radio stations, I will return to Australia later this year and play some shows in Darwin, FNQ, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. Oh yeah I have also recorded an EP of Howling Wolf songs which is out there on a tangent as I am not really a blues artist, but I will be releasing that next year.

What’s your scene?
Folk who like Americana/Folk/Indie Rock

“a vocal cross between Tom Petty and Roy Orbison, Fenton’s tasty guitar would sit well on recordings by either Wilbury”
