Q&A Scene: Claws and Organs

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
We’re putting out our two latest singles, Alphabetti Spaghetti and No Teeth No Stamina on a 7” through Listen Records and then doing a bit of a tour around the country. We’ll be hitting Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Ballarat, kicking it off with a festival in Creswick called Happy Trails. It’ll be super intimate and pretty fun. There are loads of good bands playing with us.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
A burrito that looks like it’s kind of small on the outside, but is super chocked full of a bunch of food that passed its expiry date in the 90s. Because our sound is big and has 90’s vibes.

Which of your songs resonate most strongly and why?
One of our new singles, Alphabetti Spaghetti has resonated quite well with crowds and citizens of the internet alike. It has a certain pop sensibility to it and lyrics that I think most people have probably related to at some point in their lives.

Tell us a quick, on the road, anecdote.
Nick and I tend to get a bit sillier on tour than Heather does. On our first trip to Sydney, we drank way too much at a 60’s night that started after our gig and Heather ended up having to cart home all our gear and two drunk idiots.

Where do you draw inspiration from?
I think if you aren’t being inspired by everything you experience then you’re limiting yourself as an artist. I guess we like a lot of 90’s music, but we listen to loads of other stuff as well. Go outside, look at a tree, be inspired.

Which song do you wish you wrote?
Butterfly by Crazy Town.

What’s next for you?
After the tour, we’re going to buckle down and focus on writing. There aren’t any concrete plans for what will happen after this, but it will probably depend on how the tour goes.

What’s your scene?
Punk and garage with some riot grrrl thrown in.

About Claws and Organs

Melbourne scuzzy shoegazers, Claws & Organs are set to close 2015 with the release of their latest single No Teeth No Stamina accompanied by a national tour. The band’s previous single, Alphabetti Spaghetti saw air play from triple j, 3RRR, 4ZZZ, FBi Radio and a host of other community stations, as well as gaining praise from all over the music community.

No Teeth No Stamina continues on the theme of isolation and angst from the last single, this time drawing from punk rock influences. Recorded at Head Gap with Neil Thomason, No Teeth No Staminashowcases energetic frenetic drum beats and a furious bass line, accompanied by guitar screeches and David Crowe’s bellicose, anguished vocals throughout.

The double A-side featuring Alphabetti Spaghetti and the new single, No Teeth No Stamina, will be released on a Limited Edition 7” through the newly formed LISTEN Records available at tour venues and digitally via clawsandorgans.bandcamp.com.
