Tell us about your new single Just As You Are?
‘Just As You Are’ is a moody, textured, guitar orientated track about owning one’s shortcomings and finding stillness in them.
What’s your favourite work at this point in time? (your group’s work)
I think my answer changes a lot for this type of question depending on which one I’m vibing the most at a particular time! It often can take me quite a while to be able to put tunes into perspective after spending so long intensely working on them. I’m really proud of ‘Defeatist’ which was one of the earlier tracks we wrote, I think it’s really creative with how it uses electronic drums, the marching snare, and how the intensity of the band really builds throughout. When we released it, I wouldn’t have guessed that it would be one of the only early Cloning tracks that are still in our live set, so it’s cool how that has happened!
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
A Negroni cocktail because of the bittersweet flavour and nostalgic undertones.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
The very first time we played in Melbourne we played to about 10 people and the 4th time which was last November we played to a sold out room of 250. It’s been an amazing experience watching our fanbase increase between tours and it’s also a reason why you should never give up <3
What, or who, inspires you?
Life, living, friends, family, loved ones who passed too soon; creating in their memory to honour how much they meant to us.
Which song do you wish you wrote?
Roads by Portishead.
What’s next for you?
We’re off to BIGSOUND in Brisbane this September, with lots of new music and tour news coming later in the year.
What’s your scene?
We’re part of that weird middle ground—too noisy for pop, too melodic for noise. We love thoughtful lyrics, winding textures, and songs that hit you in the feels a bit.
