Q&A Scene: Somnium Nox

Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
The album deals with general silly black metal stuff like nihilism, depression, dissociation, ect. I don’t like revealing tooooo much because I prefer to keep music as abstract as possible.

What’s your favorite work at this point in time?
*Looks at my current you tube playlist….
Lost In Kiev
Deathspell Omega
It’s actually mostly Scriabin atm, but i felt bad only mentioning a late 19th century Russian Symbolist composer.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
Nick from Greytomb did hump me while belting Bill Medley and Jennifer Warne’s – (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life at one point.

What, or who, inspires you?
*Takes a sip of wine… “Satan”
Nah but seriously, black metal is mostly a self-medication for me. Nothing in particular inspires me to write, it’s just a part of who I am.

Which song do you wish you wrote?
Bill Medley and Jennifer Warne’s – (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Cheese pizza.

What’s next for you?
All of the above.
More shows, more writing, and more recording.

What’s your scene?
Make sure you buy all your shirts from hot topic, dye your hair black with bleached blond streaks and a massive fuck off fringe. Make sure you punch people a lot when u dance… wait… I miss read the question.

About Somnium Nox

Sydney atmospheric black metal band, Somnium Nox will release their highly anticipated full length debut album, Terra Inanis on May 15 via Transcending Obscurity

The album consists of three monolithic tracks that weave together to create an otherworldly atmosphere completely representing the album title – Terra (earth) Inanis (empty,)
Immense, stark, ambient, isolating and incredibly dense soundtracks.

Incorporating didgeridoo, Somnium Nox move black metal into new and uncharted territory. Taking the listener on an oscillating trip between varying states of consciousness through their music’s transcendental qualities.
This is atmospheric black metal that is deeper than most. Stirring up emotions that were thought to be non existent and affecting the listener on a cerebral and also subliminal level.

Listening to Terra Inanis causes an emotional purge; a deep soul cleansing via the evocation of sounds from an ancient culture, the natural world and other realms.

Somnium Nox are:
Nocturnal – Guitars
Ashahalasin – Vocals
Forge – Drums
Olkoth – Keys
