Tokyo’s rock’n’soul sensations The Bawdies performed at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on Friday 6 December 2024. It’s their first Australian tour since 2008, as they bring their electric blend of ’50s-’60s beat music with a modern Japanese twist.

Formed during 2004 by four childhood friends, The Bawdies is Roy (Ryo Watanabe) on lead vocals and bass, Taxman (Taku Funayama) on guitar, Jim (Yoshihiko Kimura) on guitar, and Marcy (Masahiko Yamaguchi) on drums. While the band has been compared to The Beatles, musically they are more akin to old-school 1950s rhythm & blues and 1960s American garage. Known for their sweat-soaked, soul-drenched live shows, The Bawdies are an energetic rock ‘n’ roll revival.
