Snap Scene: Suzi Quatro – Bendigo Racecourse, Melbourne 23rd Feb 2019

American rock’n’roll queen Suzi Quatro headlined the sold-out Red Hot Summer Tour concert at Bendigo Racecourse in regional Victoria on Saturday 23 February 2019. The 68-year-old from Detroit has been rocking audiences since 1964 and has now sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. After releasing her eponymous debut album in 1973, she quickly became the first female bass player to be a major rock star.

Suzi also had a recurring role as bassist Leather Tuscadero on the popular America TV show Happy Days. Australian audiences took a liking to her, becoming a favourite down under after her singles Can the Can and Devil Gate Drive both hit number one on the charts here. The evening’s 7,000-strong crowd also enjoyed the lead guitar work of Australian Nat Allison, as a feature of Suzi’s backing band. Dave Gleeson returned to the stage to join Suzi and duet on her hit Stumbling’ In.
