Snap Scene: Raven, The Croxton, Melbourne 29th June 2019

Influential English heavy metal band Raven performed at The Croxton in Melbourne on Saturday 29 June 2019 on their first-ever tour of Australia. Raven was formed during 1974 in Newcastle Upon Tyne in north-east England by John Gallagher (bass and lead vocals), and his brother Mark Gallagher (guitar and backing vocals), and they have had Joe Hasselvander (drums and backing vocals) with them since 1987.

Their reputation as a high-energy live show with stark-raven-mad interaction between band members was confirmed, proving them to be a very entertaining band to watch perform – even if these days they don’t destroy as much of their gear as in days gone by. Even though they heavily influenced the genres of speed/thrash metal and power metal, including giving Metallica and Anthrax their first tours, it took them 44 years to finally play in Australia!
