Snap Scene: Melbourne’s Laneways – Drewery Lane by Josh Stanyer

Drewery Lane, nestled between the bustling Londsdale St and Melbourne Central, is one of Melbourne’s many famous laneways. Less famous for its street art than other laneways, Drewery Lane is set apart by only one specific art piece.

Commissioned by a charity organization called ‘Legacy’ in 2016, the piece is a set of hundreds of ceramic tiles each containing a message memorializing a lost loved one or ex service member. The larger sections of the piece were made by Sankar Nadeson, a local Mosaic artist, but there are also many pieces of smaller artwork in the form of glazed ceramic tiles made by children of ex and current defence force members.

Drewery lane is also host to a handful of small coffee shops and cafes, most notably “Little Rogue”, a small coffee shop, and Bakemono Bakers, a boutique Bakery making Japanese Pastry.
